Welcome to,
Agri chat's Antique Tractor Serial Number Reference guide.

The easy way to figure out the year a tractor was manufactured. 1898 to 1970 (but not all inclusive) and a short history of the Tractors.

Read about the first tractors here Tractor History.

If you have any additions or corrections on the materials compiled please contact the site webmaster. Thanks and good luck locating that tractor.

Here's how to use this list to determine the year a tractor was manufactured:

  • 1. Locate the serial number and determine the model and design of the tractor. For example, a Massey Harris model 22G Row Crop with serial number 1574.
  • 2. Find Massey Harris in the list below and click on it. When the Massey Harris screen comes up, look under the model 22G RC heading. Follow down the list. Number 1574 comes after 1001 (beginning number listed for 1948) but before 2096 (beginning number listed for 1949). From this we can see that our Massey Harris example was made in 1948.

Having trouble matching serial numbers? Here's some possible help:

1. Are you sure you have the serial number? There are many numbers on the tractor (motor, block, and parts numbers, etc.). The serial number plate will always carry the model of the tractor also.
2. Are you looking at the correct make and/or model in the list? It is easy to confuse some models.
3. Recheck the numbers and try again.

Tractor Design Designations:
Row Crop Design (RC)- Narrow front end, dual front wheels spaced close together, single front wheel or an adjustable width wide front. Standard Tread Design (STD) - A non adjustable wide front end. Industrial Design (I) - A standard tread design modified for industrial use. Example: mounting pads, extra wieghts, push bars etc.
